Description: The Government’s recreation and sport program is delivered through the Office for Recreation and Sport. The Office works in partnership with a range of service providers to promote a healthy, active lifestyle through participation in recreation and sport. The Office also seeks to maximise the industry’s economic contribution to the State. As part of the Office for Recreation and Sport, the South Australian Sports Institute provides facilities and services assisting the development of world class athletes, coaches and programs.

Description:
Drug & Alcohol Services South Australia (DASSA) is a statewide health service forming part of the Southern Adelaide Health Service. They provide treatment and rehabilitation for people who have complex alcohol and other drug related problems requiring a sophisticated level of specialist intervention and clinical expertise.
Services:
DASSA services include telephone counselling, withdrawal management, a therapeutic community, pharmacotherapies, amphetamine treatment interventions, and statewide community-based counselling services.
Priorities include: preventing blood-borne virus transmission, overdose deaths and alcohol related harm; vulnerable populations; and community and worker advocacy supported by a public access library.
DASC also plays a key role in monitoring, research and evaluation activities. These activities contribute to the field of knowledge in relation to alcohol and other drug issues, providing evidence for the development of best practice standards, and innovation in clinical treatment approaches and primary prevention opportunities.

The Emergency Department is the busiest in SA, and we are one of two designated trauma centres for the State.
Mental Health
Flinders Mental Health Services Division provides both community based and inpatient services to children, adolescents and adults who live within the southern metropolitan area.
Community
We offer a range of community outreach programs, including Hospital @ Home and a mobile acute crisis intervention service for people with severe mental illness. Our Inner Southern Community Health Service provides health and lifestyle services for people in the local government areas of Marion, Mitcham, Holdfast Bay and Unley.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital & Health Service is one of South Australia’s leading acute referral and teaching centres affiliated with the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia with professorial chairs in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Surgery, Medicine, Psychiatry, Anaesthesia and Cardiology.
Services:
The QEH provides health services by means of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services using the most modern available methods of assessment and treatment in medical, surgical, obstetric, mental health and other techniques. Emphasis is placed on continuity of care before and after hospitalisation and care is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team.
In addition to the main hospital services, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital provides community based services which includes Mental Health Services and the Pregnancy Advisory Centre. The State Emergency Service (S.E.S.) is a volunteer organisation, based at community level. Established under an Act of Parliament, the S.E.S is part of a National network and exists in every State and Territory of Australia. Its primary object is the provision of a nucleus of trained personnel able to respond to emergency situations and to support other statutory services in times of emergencies or disasters.

At the local community level, S.E.S. respond to ‘day to day’ type incidents such as, vehicle accidents (country areas), searches, cliff rescues, flood and storm damage situations and any other incidents at which their assistance may be required. The S.E.S. constitutes an integral part of the State Disaster organisation and is one of the fourteen Functional Services identified in the State Disaster Plan.

The Public Advocate is a statutory appointment under the Guardianship and Administration Act, 1993. The Public Advocate also has responsibilities under the Mental Health Act, 1993. The Office of the Public Advocate promotes and protects the rights of people with a reduced mental capacity. The Office has four roles, to provide guardianship, investigation, education and advocacy.

The Public Advocate can be appointed Guardian of Last Resort by the Guardianship Board when there is no other appropriate person to assist in making decisions on behalf of a person with reduced mental capacity
Undertakes investigations and prepares reports for the Guardianship Board

Workcover Corporation works closely with employers and workers on programs aimed at reducing workplace injuries, disease and fatalities.The Corporation also administers the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme. This is a no fault , employer funded scheme to cover employers and their workers in the event of a workplace injury.
Services:
The Customer Centre provides information and advice over the telephone or from staff at an information desk at the Corporation’s Waymouth Street Office
OHS and workers rehabilitation and compensation publications for free, loan or sale
A library which has a comprehensive collection of Occupational, Health and Safety, Workers Compensation, and Rehabilitation publications, training materials and other resources
